Mike Tom O'Maera

Mike Tom O’maera is an experienced Communications Consultant with vast experience gained over the last 18 years working in various positions of responsibility as well undertaking studies and consultancies. He has a special interest in communication for development and the use of media to foster peaceful co-existence. He has enhanced skills in content development and management, Radio and TV programming, media Monitoring. In addition, he has in-depth skills narrative report design, writing and development. Mike specializes in media research andconsultancy, trainings at all levels, institutional capacity assessments and capacity building and technical systems audit in media ICT. Mike has worked in various capacities within the media industry, from a cub writer to editor; he has also consulted for a various organization and worked as a communications manager for a number of organizations. He also worked as the National Coordinator at Elimu Yetu Coalition, the largest umbrella body bringing together all stakeholders in education in Kenya. He has been in-charge of Communications and Knowledge Management at East Africa Philanthropy Network, membership Association that brings together Trusts and Foundations in the East Africa region with the aim of promoting philanthropy and at Pan African Climate Justice Alliance, a continental coalition of Civil Society Organizations in the African Continent that brings together FBOs, CBOs, NGOs, INGOs and Government Institutions with a common goal of promoting and advocating for climate friendly and equity-based development. In addition, he has consulted for various organizations working in East and central Africa; Save the Children, and Oxfam in the IMAM project in the East African Region as well as in South Central Somalia, RDC and HLH among others. Mike has interests in various sectors including social entrepreneurship, agriculture, climate Change, Education, disability programming and the vulnerable communities. Mike’s Educational background includes BA in Mass Communication, attained from St Augustine University of Tanzania, advanced Diplomas in Philosophy and Theology attained from Christ the King Major Seminary in Nyeri- Kenya. He is knowledgeable in Project planning, M&E and Basic GIS and GPS. He is currently completing his MA in Journalism and Mass Communication at Chuka University in Kenya.
