Joint Participants Meeting – Cultivating Justice Project

The Cultivating Justice Project seeks to strengthen Business and Human Rights (BHR) accountability in Kenya’s agribusiness sector by empowering Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Grassroots Organizations, and Human Rights and Environment Defenders (HREDs) to monitor and respond to business-related human rights harms. The project is anchored in global normative frameworks including the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and is aligned with Kenya’s National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (2019-2024), which outlines state and private sector obligations in promoting responsible business practices.
During the first six months of implementation, the project has undertaken mapping of agribusiness investments and related human rights violations in Nairobi Metropolis, Nakuru, and Nyandarua. A baseline study was conducted to establish the current status of responsible business conduct, identify key gaps, and inform targeted interventions. As implementation progresses, it is essential to build shared understanding among project participants, validate emerging insights, and deepen collaboration with strategic stakeholders in the BHR ecosystem.
CEPCJ and participants trained under training and learning sessions participated in the Joint Participants Meetings that took place in Nairobi, Nakuru and Nyandarua Counties. These meetings brought together project implementing partners, target groups, and external stakeholders to reflect, learn, and jointly strategize towards enhanced coordination and impact.
The objectives were to:
- Build a shared understanding of the project’s progress, key activities, and lessons from the first six months of implementation.
- Present and discuss the findings of the baseline survey.
- Engage external stakeholders on current BHR issues relevant to the project’s focus areas.
- Identify opportunities for collaboration, alignment, and joint action
CEPCJ remains committed to contributing towards enhancing Responsible Business Conduct.
